National Railroad Museum Hosts STEAM Day

Ten students from HSSD participated in a STEAM challenge designed by the National Railroad Museum. Museum educators challenged students to be "part of the solution" by designing transportation options for the future. The goal was to relieve the burden of our over-taxed air system by focusing on developing high speed trains.  During the morning, students enjoyed the historic museum atmosphere where they learned about aerodynamics, mass, velocity, color and safety, and the Doppler Effect. Then, during the afternoon, they became the designers. Students worked collaboratively to build prototypes of trains that would be high speed as well as withstand the demands of strength testing.
