BP FFA hosts Ag Day Camp October 19th

Any 4th, 5th or 6th grader that loves animals, the outdoors, flowers and plants is welcome! FFA members will instruct five, one hour interactive workshops related to agriculture. Attendees choose 3 out of 5 workshops to participate in. Registration is $30 per participant and closes on September 30. Registration includes lunch, T-shirt and supplies for workshops.  Follow the link for more information and to register.

We would like to extend a warm welcome to our two new team members Niki Eickholt and Kelly Koller. Mrs. Eickholt will be working with our GT students and teaching Innovation class at Meadowbrook Elementary. Mrs. Koller will be working with GT and Innovation class students at Suamico Elementary and sharing Forest Glen with Mrs. Rank. We are excited to have them join our team!

Elementary Writing Conference May 2

Students from six area districts, including Howard-Suamico, enjoyed learning about many aspects of writing at the Elementary Writing Conference held at Heritage Hill on May 2. Students participated in presentations by award winning poet Kathryn Gahl and book authors Genevieve Artel and Jill Harding. In addition to learning about the author's writing techniques, they also reflected and wrote their own works. Their writing will be compiled into an anthology to celebrate this year's event and the accomplishments of our young writers.

Author's Cafe Event April 16

The Gifted and Talented team at HSSD will be hosting an Author's Cafe on Wednesday, April 16, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Barnes and Noble. Students will be sharing writing excerpts from their work during the past school year. Please join us, hear some terrific stories, and support our students on this exciting endeavor!

Bay Port Drama Club Hosts Theater Workshop

The Bay Port Drama Club will host a Theater Workshop for students in kindergarten through grade 6 on April 13, 2019. The workshop will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The theme is "The Princess and the Frog". The fee for the workshop is $25.00. Fourth Grade Students from HSSD Come Together for STEAM Day 2019

Fourth grade students representing each of the five elementary schools in the district came together with five other districts from northeast Wisconsin on Tuesday, February 26, for a STEAM day at the National Railroad Museum. Students learned about aerodynamics, the Doppler effect, force, speed, and motion, and how color influences what we see. They used those concepts to develop a model of an effective high speed train of the future. Once constructed, their models were tested for strength, durability, and safety. Howard Suamico students worked together on two teams. One of our teams tied for first place and the other team placed right behind them in third place. Critical thinking, problem solving, and team work were important elements of our teams' success. Congratulations students on a job well done! Thanks to the National Railroad Museum for hosting this outstanding event.

Chess Tournaments to be Held in the Green Bay Area

The Wisconsin Scholastic Chess Federation will hold a K-12 chess tournament at Preble High School on Saturday, January 19, and another tournament at West Depere Middle School on Saturday, January 26. All skill levels are welcome provided the students are able to complete a game of chess successfully on their own. It is a fun way for students to meet others and to grow their own chess skills.
